The Effectiveness of Banner Ads

Banner ads are used as a form of advertising on a website.  Some can be big or small, but the point is to get people to click on them.  With the rise of other types of virtual ads, are banner ads still effective?

First, let’s discuss what a banner ad is and what it is supposed to do.  When a page on a website loads, there are advertisements at the top and/or bottom of the page.  Those are banner ads.  Some are flashy, blinding (you need sunglasses to see them), small (magnifying glass) or large.  Banner ads are click-through ads.  If you click in the space, you are redirected to another site that tells you more about the ad.

Many banner ads are ignored, especially if they flash a lot.  Looking at all those annoying colors while you are trying to read the text on a page is maddening.  People figured the idea was to make them as big and bright as possible to be seen.  That worked but that didn’t mean that anyone would actually click on them.

Banner ads can be many sizes.  If your banner ad is too large, it won’t load as quickly as the webpage.  By the time it finishes loading the graphics and text, your potential customer could be on to another page.  Banner ads still exist of course, but more and more people are opting for programs like Google AdWords which customizes ads to your website.  You can bring in a little revenue and the ads don’t take up a lot of space or blind anyone.

If you want to use banner ads on your website, here are a few tips to increase your click-through rate.

1.  Add a “click here” button.  People who click on these ads want to reach the destination as quickly as possible.  Giving specific instructions helps them get there.  You can actually click anywhere on the ad where your cursor turns into a hand, but without explicit instructions where to click, some people will ignore the banner.

2.  Forego the bright colors for a little flash and bigger font.  An ad can have color on the flashing words or buttons.  That catches the eye.  The words need to be bigger than a fly speck and tell the visitor why they need to click on your ad.  You only have one shot at this with each visitor, so make it count.

3.  Connect the banner ad with the page they want to view.  Clicking on ads that take you everywhere but the page with the offer frustrates visitors.  Most won’t hunt for the page – they’ll just go back to where they were before.

Banner ads can be effective if used in a certain manner.  Keep them short and to the point with a little flash to attract traffic.

Using Graphics on Your Mini Site

Mini sites are not known for being flashy. And there’s a good reason for that. Too much flash and splash detracts from the message you’re trying to get across. And when your site is made up of only one or a few pages, your message must get through quickly.

But as we all know, a page full of plain old text isn’t particularly appealing. And even if formatting is used to make certain things stand out, a bright and prominent graphic does a much better job of drawing our attention. So even though graphics should be used sparingly on a mini site, it’s crucial to make sure that the graphics we do use are effective.

The first graphic people will see when they visit your mini site is your page header. It stands to reason that it should be attractive and captivating. It doesn’t have to be a complex work of art, but it should be brightly colored and include the name of your product. A few more words might be in order, but don’t go overboard. The headline will provide more detailed information about what you have to offer. For more awesome graphic ideas for your mini sites go to Mini Site Solution.

Most mini sites have a bulleted list somewhere on the page. They are bulleted because they contain important information, such as your product’s key benefits or what’s included with it. So attention-getting bullets in bright colors are good things to have.

And then there are your buttons and boxes. Boxes are used to bring things like testimonials and calls to action to the reader’s attention. The most commonly used button is the order button, and that should definitely stand out.

A mini site is not the place for a graphic design exhibition (unless, of course, you’re selling graphics). The graphics used should be prominent and professional looking, yet not so fancy that they take the visitor’s attention away from the text.

Choosing Profitable Mini Site Topics

It’s easy to see why a mini site is called a mini site. Many are only one page, as opposed to some websites that have more pages than an unabridged dictionary. But there’s something else about successful mini sites that’s small: their focus.

A good mini site targets a group of people that shares a very specific need. This is called a niche, and it’s an important asset to a mini site’s success. Your niche is what keeps you out of competition with those sites that claim to have something for everyone. There’s no way a mini site can have something for everyone, but it can have just the thing for some people.

Choosing a good niche topic is essential if you want to have a successful mini site. Choose one that’s too broad, and it will be so saturated that you can’t break in. Choose one that’s too narrow, and there won’t be enough demand to make a profit. For really great tips to help you choose your niche go to Mini Site Solution and watch a really great video.

Here’s an example. Let’s say you want to sell a recipe book. A general recipe book might appeal to lots of people, but there are countless general recipe books already on the market. Another one wouldn’t get much attention. So you decide to get really specific and write a book of Mexican scrambled egg recipes that contain habanero peppers. No doubt some people would like such recipes, but they would probably want a book that covered a little more ground. Mexican egg recipes might be a happy medium.

When it comes to choosing a topic for your mini site, you don’t have to rely on guesswork. You can investigate any topic you’re considering using some free online tools. One such tool is the Google Adwords keyword tool. It will tell you the search volume of any keyword, and it will give you a general idea of the amount of competition among advertisers for that keyword. The higher the search volume, and the lower the competition, the more profitable the keyword.

Mini sites may be small in size, but they have big moneymaking potential. Taking the time to choose a good niche topic will maximize your profits.

Why a Mini Site?

Visit almost any restaurant, and you’ll see evidence of the increasingly common belief that bigger is better. Fast food restaurants zealously encourage their patrons to upsize their drinks and fries, and upscale dining establishments pile food high on their customers’ plates.

Many websites have taken the “bigger is better” theory to heart, too. Superstores like Overstock.com and Wal-mart have websites consisting of thousands upon thousands of pages. And they are doing quite well for themselves.

When there are so many large sites online, it may seem futile to try to get a piece of the pie. The average person doesn’t have the time or money to set up such an operation, let alone maintain it. But you don’t have to. A mini site can flourish in a land of Internet giants.

The reason mini sites work is because they do not directly compete with the big guys. Instead of trying to be all things to all people, a mini site simply seeks to do well in a small niche. In this case, in a sense, smaller is better.

The most successful mini sites go after a small but underserved niche. They find a need that isn’t being filled, and they fill it. This puts them into a position to get better rankings in the search engines, because the keywords that people would use to find their offerings are not often targeted by webmasters of larger sites. With some good SEO, they can get targeted traffic at very little expense. To find out more about SEO and you mini site go to Mini Site Solution.

Once the visitors are at the mini site, the sales letter grabs their attention and, hopefully, convinces them to make a purchase. Those who are on the fence may sign up for a newsletter or free course. This provides the opportunity to maintain contact and persuade them to buy later.

A mini site can hold its own, even with millions of other web pages online. You just need a good niche, a quality product and a strong sales pitch.

How to Make a Niche Market Profitable

ApplesNiche marketing has been around for several years now. Many people have used its strategies to make a lot of money for themselves. If you have discovered a niche market, here are a few tips for making it profitable.

You have completed the hardest step — finding a niche market. It isn’t easy to come up with a product or service that hasn’t already been exploited in the market. Now that you have, you still have the task of turning your knowledge into cold hard cash.

1. Find the correct keywords. When people look for things on the Internet, they use words that describe them. Those search parameters are what you need to figure out in order to drive traffic to your website. There are tools on the Internet that assist you in finding a list of suitable keywords. You can also come up with some of your own and plug them into the search box and see how you are doing. Those words that return the fewest search results are the ones you want to use to build your business.

2. Use those keywords. A keyword is the search parameters that a person types into a search engine to get a list of results. With a niche, you want your name and website to grace the front page of the search results. How do you do that? By using keywords that pertain to your business but return few search results. Spread these words through your website in page headings, website content, and advertising. Try long tail keywords for better search results.

3. Create a domain name with keywords. You want people to find you, so don’t neglect your domain name as a keyword tool. Find catchy words from your keyword list and use them. If you aren’t sure how this will work out, create a free domain name and test it for a few months. Your domain name will bring in cash and you can change to a paid permanent website name similar to the free domain name.

4. Know your customers. Many businesses have spent big dollars marketing to the wrong customer and seeing very little profit. Learn where your customers originate using surveys and other incentives on your website. The more you know about your customers, the more you’ll be able to tighten up your marketing options to draw out more of them and direct them to your niche website and your products.

5. Open a virtual store on your site. Customers can peruse the pages and buy at their leisure after they’ve read about your products.

Are you looking for the next big thing that people need? Once you have discovered a viable niche market, learn how to make it profitable.

Finding Hungry Markets

Hungry dogMarketing strategies help you to find and continually wow your customer base.  Every Internet marketer uses such strategies to grow their business.  The difference is that some markets are hungrier than others when it comes to selling your products.

If you’ve been around the marketing game for the last five years, you’ve heard about niche marketing.  Niche marketing involves finding an as yet untapped area of business and dominating it for business success.  Even if you knew what niche marketing was, the trick is actually finding those hungry markets that are waiting to be exploited.

One helpful tool is to know what market you want to do business in.  Your business focus could be selling jewelry.  There are a lot of jewelry sites out there.  You may specialize in African jewelry.  Once you have your area of expertise you can conduct some research to see exactly who you will market to.

Perform a little keyword research.  Find keywords that describe your product.  Some will get millions of search results.  The idea is to whittle away at the list until you find keywords that will bring in the fewest results.  You are beginning to zero in on your niche market.

Let’s say you are interested in something other than jewelry.  The product or service you are promoting determines how much demand there is for the items.  If no one wants them, you won’t sell any.

Do some test marketing.  Advertise your product and see how well it sells.  Set up an eBay account and hold a few auctions.

If that product doesn’t sell well, try another one.  Some companies don’t appreciate niche marketing because they feel it will narrow their profits.  In fact, niche marketing does just the opposite.

You probably have ideas for several products or services to offer on your website.  Trying to advertise for more than one on a site can be tricky, especially if you want to establish a niche.  Set up a website for each product and market them separately.

It may take several tries to find the product that makes your niche profitable.  The word here is patience.  Several niche websites may be required to find even one that is a goldmine.

Another way to find hungry markets is to learn about your customers.  There is nothing worse than spending money marketing to the wrong group of people.  Set up polls and surveys on the website to get information from all traffic that visits you.

Ask yourself a few questions about your product or service to get you going in the right direction:

  • Who would benefit the most from your service or product?
  • Who can afford your service or product?
  • What can you offer that is different from others?

Finding niche markets that are ripe for profit requires some legwork on your part.  It may also require more than one website to realize the success that you seek.  But, it will be worth it to be the first to introduce a new market.

Digital Marketing Campaign – What does it mean?

Marketing is used as a way to make our advertising more effective.  If you have the right audience identified, you can find ways to reach them.  One such way that is growing by leaps and bounds is digital marketing.

What is digital marketing?  It is basically marketing tools that encompass everything but traditional methods.  It doesn’t include print or magazine media.  Some people think of banner ads and email, but the scope is so much larger than that.

Digital media does include the two above-mentioned techniques, but also others you might not have thought to include:

  • Podcasts
  • RSS feeds
  • SMS
  • Instant messaging
  • Text messaging
  • Video streaming
  • Social bookmarking
  • Blogging

All of these avenues are used to market products and services to the global community.  With traditional forms of marketing, you get feedback from your customers and others who just wanted a look-see, but it takes time.  Compiling responses is labor-intensive.

Here’s an example.  You send a bill to a customer.  On the back it states that they can make a comment or write change of address information if needed.  Let’s say that the customer mails their bill back to you.  It may take three to four days to receive and then another day or two to credit the account and log any responses.  Before that customer hears back from you if they have a complaint, it could be a week or more.

That’s how things were done in the past – exclusively.  Changes in the technological landscape of our world have made waiting a thing of the past for most services.  With instant messaging, we can carry on a conversation with a client in real time.  The same goes for webcasting.  Podcasting is like having your own little radio station on your website.  Even with email and social networking sites you can chat as if you were in the same room.

It really is a convenient way to reach the people who would most benefit from your products and services.  And, what if you want to keep up with someone’s blog postings?  Subscribe to their RSS feed.  When updates are made you are notified.  Checking on news or an eBay auction?  You can do it from your cellular phone with SMS messages.

There are two types of digital media:  push and pull.  Pull is when a user finds you on the Internet using digital media.  They have your website address and they link to you and your media – streaming video, podcasts, and the like.  They establish a link with you.

Push is when you contact the user and entice them to use your services or products.  This is the logic behind the SMS messages you receive on your cellular phone.  Emails from companies can be sent directly to the customer asking them to come and see what you offer.

Digital marketing is moving business ahead in a big way.  We used to be limited to print and then our computer searches, but now, the target market is accessible through many media outlets.
